A New Ipswich woman has been indicted on charges of possession and falsifying physical evidence.

Elizabeth Brassard, 21, of New Ipswich, was indicted by a grand jury at the Hillsborough Superior Court on Feb. 19 on one count of violation of the controlled drug act, and one count of falsifying physical evidence.

The charges allege Brassard had possession a quantity of fentanyl, a controlled drug, on Nov. 30.

Allegedly, while at the New Ipswich Police Department, Brassard purposely attempted to destroy evidence by ingesting fentanyl, and pushing the remaining powder onto the floor to impair police attempts at investigation.

Both charges are class B felonies and individually carry penalties of up to three and a half to seven years in prison or $4,000 in fines.

An indictment is not an indication of guilt or innocence, but a finding by a grand jury that there is sufficient evidence to bring a case to trial.
