Hometown Diner in Rindge is raising money for a Jaffrey police officer who lost her home and dogs in a fire last month.

The diner is selling orders of assorted donut holes for $3, with 100 percent of the proceeds to benefit officer Amanda Swanson.

Nancy Lovett, front of house manager for Hometown Diner, said the fundraiser was created by diner owner Bonita Rosengrant.

“If someone is down and out, [Bonita] tries to lend a helping hand,” Lovett said. “She is a dog lover, so it hit her pretty hard.”

Swanson lost her two dogs – Oakley and Axel – during a fire at her Gilsum home on Jan. 24. The fire also totaled her home.

The fundraiser began last week and runs through the end of March.

“People have even come in to give donations without buying any donuts,” Lovett said.

Hometown Diner is not the only fundraising opportunity to help Swanson.

Swanson has worked in both Jaffrey and Rindge as a police officer, beginning her tenure in Rindge as a part-time officer in March 2016.

She was later hired full-time by Rindge at the start of 2017 and has been working as a full-time officer in Jaffrey since February 2018.
