The Greenfield Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to remove a Greenfield man from his vehicle following a crash on Saturday afternoon.

Charles D. Kelley, 68, was taken to the hospital after he was extracted from his 2005 Pontiac G6, Police Chief Brian Giammarino said Monday.

Kelley was traveling north on River Street near Brashlyn Lane around 3:07 p.m. when he crossed the center line and struck a tree on the other side of the road.ย

โ€œHe struck one tree and kind of bounced off it,โ€ Giammarino said. โ€œ[His vehicle] came to rest on a second tree. He hit it, but it didnโ€™t cause any damage.โ€

Giammarino is unsure what caused the crash, but Kelley was complaining that his stomach bothered him prior to the crash.ย

Kelleyโ€™s vehicle sustained extensive front end damage and was towed from the scene.

โ€œThe vehicle is totaled, no doubt,โ€ Giammarino said.ย
