A Franklin Pierce student was injured Tuesday afternoon when he slipped on Pearly Pond and hit his head on the ice.
Rindge emergency crews responded to the boat launch on University Drive on Franklin Pierce campus around 12:20 p.m. Tuesday, after receiving a report that a student had slipped and hit his head.
Police and Franklin Pierce University officials declined to name the man, but police confirmed he is a 21-year-old student at Franklin Pierce University from Ipswich, Massachusetts.ย
Rindge Fire Captain Casey Burrage said Tuesday that students were out on the ice, wearing street shoes, when one slipped. The fire department and ambulance responded. The man was consciousย when the fire department arrived, and he had complained of a headache.
โHe seemed just dazed,โ Rindgeย police officer Mark Griffin, who responded to the scene, said in an interview Wednesday. โHeโd hit his head, but there was no visible blood and he was consciousย and alert. He was just lying on the ice.โ
The man was about 75 feet from the shore, Burrage said, and the fire department carried him on a litter back to shore. He was taken by ambulance to Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough for a medical check as a precaution.
