Franklin Pierce University will offer scholarships and an expedited admissions path to students who were enrolled at or planned on attending Mount Ida College.
Mount Ida College, a liberal arts college based in Newton, Massachusetts, announced its sudden closure last week after exploring a potential merger with the nearby Lasellย College.ย
โWe will provide 20 full-tuition scholarships for current Mount Ida students who enroll at Franklin Pierce as full-time residential students,โ saidย Linda Quimby, vice president for enrollment at FPU, in a news release.ย โAdditional applicants will be eligible to receive generous transfer scholarships. All scholarships will be awarded through undergraduate degree completion.โ
FPUย will provide immediate admissions and financial aid review for any current or prospective Mount Ida student. To streamline the process, FPUย will waiveย the application fee, offer a seamless transfer of all credits, and stack any outside scholarships on top of the full tuition waiver.ย
โWe will create a student living community on campus for Mount Ida students with housing options for them as roommates and friends,โ said Quimby.ย
Franklin Pierce University has done similar programs in the past, gaining national recognition for its 2005 program โKatrina Scholars,โ which brought devastated students from New Orleans to Rindge for a semester. The university also offered students affected by Hurricane Harvey a chance to attend the fall semester free of charge.ย
