Town Hall renovations and the purchase of a new fire truck are the two biggest items on Wilton’s warrant this year.
Wilton’s budget is set this year at $5.1 million, a 4.3 increase from last year.
The town is requesting $300,000 – $20,000 from capital reserves, the rest from tax – to renovate the north end of the Town Hall. The renovations will include the addition of storage and office space, as well as life and safety improvements such as the installation of a building-wide fire alarm.
The other big ticket item on the warrant this year is the purchase of a used ladder truck for the fire department. The truck will cost a total of $325,000, with $75,000 from taxation and the rest from capital reserves.
Wilton is requesting multiple additions to capital reserve funds in anticipation for future projects: Establish a heating system fund for the Town Hall and add $25,000 to it, establish a highway garage reserve and add $75,000 to it, $30,250 for the ambulance reserve, $75,000 for highway equipment, $28,000 for bridges, $22,000 for library renovation and repair, and $28,000 for police equipment.
There is also a request to create two new capital reserve accounts this year, one for the heating system for the Town Hall and the building of a new Highway Department garage.
