In the January cold, Mascenic Regional High School students are focused on making their way to Orlando.

The band and chorus are hosting an all-you-can-eat chili cookoff at the high school to raise money for a trip to perform at Walt Disney World in April.

“I’m actually going from experience because my mom used to have chili cookoffs when I was younger for the Amherst PTA,” Jen Amis, Mascenic music director, said.

They are going to be performing as part of the Disney Performing Arts on Stage program over three days in April. ConVal is also sending a group. Amis went twice as a student at Souhegan Coop High School.

As part of the application, she video-recorded the May concert and submitted the best songs.

Thirteen local chili recipes will compete for prizes (with a special category for the spiciest), awarded by faculty judges, and can be tasted by all who attend.

Student Mahala Damery will be performing on guitar on piano throughout the night.

Tickets are $5 for adults, and $3 for students and children. It is Friday, Jan. 27, at the Mascenic Regional High School cafeteria. It will run from 6 to 8 p.m.
