Liz Winchester-Larson has a new exhibit at the Bagel Mill in Peterborough.

During her exhibition “For the Love of Detail,” Winchester-Larson will present a colored pencil demonstration on Thursdays, Jan. 26, from 2 – 3:30 pm, Feb. 9, from 2 – 3:30 pm, and again on Thursday February 23, from 2 – 3:30 pm In this informal drop-in event, Liz will work directly from a small still-life arrangement to demonstrate how she applies many layers of colored pencil, building up the transition of linear marks into the illusion of solid form. With this technique, she achieves rich color and intricate detail in her work. Patience is a virtue in the colored pencil medium.

Liz was introduced to the medium of colored pencil years ago for precise architectural rendering with her studies in the Interior and Environmental Design BFA program at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY. Now enjoying still-life subjects, she uses professional grade colored pencils rated light-fast by the Colored Pencil Society of America and fine art drawing papers. Inspired by the 17th Century Dutch still-life masters to Victorian era theorem paintings, she creates elaborate still-life arrangements using fruits, flowers, and objects from her collections. The still-life set up becomes more than fruit / object and backdrop, it is an environment of form, color, and light. Still-life surrounds her, the kettle on the stove, plants on the window sill, all saying: “Draw me, no me, draw me first!”

An artist and print-maker with more than forty years of experience, Liz has a small studio in Keene, NH. Her studio is filled with objects and plants for still-life set ups and a view of Mount Monadnock from the windows. She has exhibited her award winning paintings in one person and group shows throughout the New England area. Liz is a member of the Colored Pencil Society of America and their District Chapter 112, the Gardner Area League of Artists, Monadnock Area Artists Association, Nashua Area Artists Association, and Saxtons River Art Guild.

The exhibition may be viewed through February 28.
