The Amherst College Zumbyes perform at the Peterborough Town House on Friday at 7 p.m. The Zumbyes, founded in 1950, are the oldest, most elite a cappella group at Amherst College. The group was formed from a desire to sing more contemporary Jazz than the traditional college repertoire at the time. The Zumbyes of today still uphold this legacy, by continuing to arrange songs with a strong jazz influence while also incorporating elements of soul and R&B. The Zumbyes pride themselves on their tight musical blend, the elaborate flare of their performances as well as the diversity among their members. Their energetic performances, more aptly called spectacles, are guaranteed to entertain, taking listeners on an emotional journey and leaving them smiling more broadly than before.
