The Pine View Apartments in Peterborough were the site of an infant death Tuesday.

The death of an infant at Pine View Village Apartments is not considered suspicious, according to Peterborough police.

At 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, Peterborough Police and Peterborough Ambulance personnel responded to the Prescott Hill Road complex for a reported 15-month-old girl not conscious and not breathing. Peterborough paramedics determined that the infant was dead.

Peterborough police secured the scene and initiated an investigation.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death and to determine whether or not further investigation is warranted.

Peterborough Fire Chief Ed Walker was present for the call, and said that responders did not try resuscitation because it was clear the child had deceased.

“Any calls involving children is difficult, particularly young children,” he said. “And particularly when the child is deceased it is all the more difficult.”

Walker said the child’s mother was at the scene, but her father was not there at the time.

The State Medical Examiner’s office assisted with the on-scene investigation. The State Attorney General’s office and Hillsborough County Attorney’s office were also notified of the investigation.
