To the editor:
A story in the newspapers this week informs us that the DOT will be here this week looking for consensus on proposed safety improvements to the intersection of Route 101, Route 123 and Old Street Road.
While that spot deserves attention, the worst intersection in Peterborough is at the intersection of the Big Apple, the state liquor store and Route 101. Drive out of the liquor store parking lot and you might encounter vehicles traveling east on Route 101. Some will go straight east, some will turn into the liquor store lot and some will turn left into Big Apple. Meanwhile traffic traveling west on Route 101 might turn left into the liquor store lot, some may continue straight and some may turn right into Big Apple. Traffic exiting Big apple may go straight across into the liquor lot, they may turn left to go east on 101 or the may turn right to go west on 101. Traffic exiting the liquor store lot may go straight across to the Big Apple, they may turn right to go east on 101 or they may turn left to go West on 101. Some of the traffic may take advantage of the central turning lane and some may not. Some may use directional signals and some may not. The DOT will hold a hearing at Peterborough Town Hall today at 6 p.m.
