To the editor:
On the whole, your message in the Nov. 10 editorial “Time for hope, not hate” was fine and measured, but your characterization of votes cast for a third party as “misdirected” was unfair and out of bounds. It impugns those who exercise their protected right to vote their conscience rather than try to play politics by voting for a candidate to prevent another from getting in, as I did.
Unfortunately, our current two-party system (or, one-party system, if you’re feeling cynical) dilutes that right. We need more choices, not fewer. We should demand ranked voting, real campaign finance reform and debates that include at least the top four candidates.
