An opportunityfor nonprofits

To the editor:

Nonprofit organizations are the backbone of our community, providing essential services to individuals and families, caring for our youth and elderly, and improving the quality of life for all of us.

100+ Women Who Care Peterborough is a group of community-minded women who pool their collective donations four times a year, each time benefitting a single local charity. In the last three years, weโ€™ve raised more than $75,000 for community organizations. And since our membership has now reached 170+, we were able to donate more than $9,000 in our most recent quarterly gift.

We want to make sure that all charity organizations serving our community and the surrounding towns are aware of a recent change to our nomination process. For our first three years, members of 100+ WWC were the only ones eligible to nominate charities for consideration at quarterly meetings, and to present to 100+ WWC on behalf of those groups. This is changing. Weโ€™re now in a position to expand our outreach to community groups outside of our membership. Any interested organization that wants to be considered for a donation during our upcoming quarterly meetings is invited to go to our website, www.100womenwhocarepeterborough.com, to learn more about the process and to fill out a Charity Nomination Form.

For questions, please contact Debra Heckathorn at dsheckathorn@comcast.net.The nomination deadline for our Jan. 26 meeting is Jan. 11. We hope area nonprofits will take advantage of this opportunity, which is available four times per year, and that more local women who care will join us in supporting these deserving and important organizations.
