On Wednesday, Dec. 7 from 2 to 4 p.m., all Friends of the Jaffrey Library, patrons and staff, and booklovers are invited to the 10th Annual Holiday Tea, held in the library’s Bean Room. Tea parties are a staple in the works of many beloved authors, ranging from Jane Austen, Charles Dickens, and Lewis Carroll, to T.S. Eliot, Henry James, and Agatha Christie. Thus, it seems only fitting that the Friends Holiday Tea has become a festive tradition that brings people together for tea, sandwiches, cookies, cakes, and conversation. As Henry James said, in the opening of The Portrait of a Lady, “Under certain circumstances, there are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea.”
There will a brief annual meeting around 3 p.m. to review the year, discuss increasing the dues, and elect the 2017 Executive Board. The afternoon will close with the storytelling by the librarians.
The Jaffrey Friends of the Library is a nonprofit group that works to strengthen, promote, and support our public library. It is committed to helping the library meet the diverse needs of the community and open doors to lifelong learning and discovery for everyone.
