The holiday edition of “Broke: The Affordable Arts Fair” brings together over 50 artists selling their creations for under $50 in a curated arts fair that matches accessibility with quality and affordability on Nov.19.
“Broke is special because it is more accessible than many “fine craft” shows, but it is more refined than a typical holiday craft fair. Many of the exhibiting artists make art as their full-time living, and I feel fortunate that folks create affordable special editions of their artwork in order to participate,” said Mary Goldthwaite, a board member of Broke’s directing organization the Glass Museum, of the free art fair.
The show takes place in the quaint downtown of Peterborough, NH. Artists have been carefully selected to offer a breadth of options that transcend a typical craft fair, yet remain affordable with a strict $50 limit per item. Most items sell for less. Broke has become an institution, since being founded in 2008, creating its own micro-economy within Peterborough with up to $30,000 in sales at the fall event every year.
“We draw visiting vendors from all corners of New England. In the past, we have had folks travel from New York, North Carolina, and Texas,” said Goldthwaite.
“Broke: The Affordable Arts Fair” will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Peterborough Town Hall at 1 Grove Street in Peterborough, NH. The event is free to attend.
The fair will be followed by the Fall Concert at Harlow’s Pub, 3 School Street in Peterborough. This 21+ show brings together Adam and the Flood and Julie Rhodes in an affordable concert in an intimate venue. Tickets are $10 and the show begins at 9:30 p.m.
Broke was first held in 2008 and has maintained a focus on its founding principle of affordable art for all.
