Wilton’s tax rate will remain flat this year, matching the 2015 rate of $26.34 per $1,000 of valuation.

The town’s portion of the tax rate rose by 2 percent this year, creeping up by 13 cents from $6.26 to $6.39.

That increase was also coupled with an increase in the county tax rate, which went  up by six cents from $1.21 to $1.27. But those increases were offset by drops in both the local and state school rate.

The local school rate is down this year from $16.53 last year to $16.42 this year, less than a 1 percent difference. Last year was the first year the district operated with consolidated elementary schools, combining the Lyndeborough and Wilton schools in one building for all grades 1-5, with a second facility for the SAU offices and pre-school and kindergarten.

The change was expected to result in cost savings on facilities and faculty.

The state education portion of the rate is also down, dropping from $2.34 to $2.26, a 3.4 percent percent drop.

A person who owns a property assessed at $200,000 can expect to pay $5,268 in taxes in the coming year – the same as last year if the property valuation has not changed.
