On Thursday, All Saints’ Church, Peterborough will start its second session of adult Christian education.
All Saints’ parishioner Debbie Rogers will introduce people to “Centering Prayer, an Advent discipline.”
Rogers says, “The hustle and bustle of Christmas and materialism distract me from the contemplative, God-focused season of preparation for which I long … I long for a closer relationship with God at Christmas time, but I can’t quite make it happen.”
Centering prayer is a tool for fostering intimacy with God. Each week, the group will be viewing sections of “Invitation from God,” a video featuring Father Thomas Keating, a Cistercian monk and authority on the contemplative life, as well as practicing centering prayer, and sharing the experience. A centering prayer group will be formed at the end of class.
Session 2 will meet for four Thursday evenings, Oct. 27 through Nov. 17, from 7 to 8 p.m. at All Saints’ Church Old Parish House, 51 Concord St., Peterborough. Sessions are free and all are welcome.
