This year’s Scarecrows on the Common will be bigger than ever.

The event, which takes place in downtown Jaffrey on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., will have a number of new events and features this year, according to TEAM Jaffrey Executive Director Melanie McDonald.

“We have a lot going on for such a small geographic area,” said McDonald. “It’s a great opportunity for people to embrace fall.”

TEAM Jaffrey still has a few slots left for its inaugural chili cook-off, which will pit 20 local chefs against each other in a battle for culinary supremacy. There will be three winners: best traditional, best vegetarian, and people’s choice.

Also new this year is a pumpkin carving demonstration by Guinness World Record holder and speed carver Trevor Hunt, a pie-eating contest, hayrides, and more.

TEAM Jaffrey’s signature event will host dozens of residents and visitors building and dressing scarecrows, which will be left up in town through the month.

Scarecrow builders are encouraged to plan ahead and bring their own clothing. Materials to build the scarecrows will cost $5.
