The town of Jaffrey is working to replace a water seal on the Main Street dam.
Department of Public Works Director Randall Heglin said Monday that the dam is holding water right now, but over the summer there were some problems with the water level of the dam.
“The work has not been scheduled yet, but we are hoping to have the work completed within the month,” said Heglin. “The repair should only take a few hours. We have to drain the dam area to repair the seal.”
Heglin said the town is working with the installer of the gate, IPC Lydon, out of Avon, Massachusetts, to repair the seal. Heglin said he will not know the cost of the seal replacement until the work has been completed.
Heglin said the seal runs the length of the sluice gates which is eight feet long. The seal runs on the bottom part of the sluice gate, which is designed to control the flow of water at the dam.
