The newly formed Peterborough Welcome Team, a group of resident volunteers, is inviting individuals, local businesses, community organizations and service providers to join their efforts to welcome new residents to Peterborough. The group, recently endorsed by the Peterborough Economic Development Authority, believes that a personal welcome visit and an invitation to a quarterly Meet and Greet event will be a win-win for residents and local businesses and organizations.
Karen Hatcher and Sandy Bibace, both Peterborough residents, initiated the project after participating in a local Community Conversation.
The groupโs tagline is โMoving here is just the beginning,โ and they hope that their efforts inspire new residents to become fully engaged in the community. New residents may request a visit using this online form: http://bit.ly/WelcomeVisit.
The Peterborough Welcome Team (PWT) is currently seeking partners to support their endeavor. Individuals may volunteer to reach out to new residents with visits; businesses and community organizations may opt to donate items for the baskets, sponsor the Meet and Greet events, or provide materials for the PWT information library. All are welcome to attend a Meet and Greet event.
A mailing to new residents will be going out in early October inviting them to request a welcome visit and attend the first family-friendly Meet and Greet event scheduled for Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. at the Peterborough Town House.
To reach new residents on an ongoing basis, a supply of sign up postcards will also be made available at the Town Clerkโs office, the Peterborough Town Library, and other key locations in town.
Organizations and businesses wishing to be included in the first round of visits this fall are encouraged to contact the PWT at PeterboroughWelcome@gmail.com by Oct. 7. The online sign-up form for businesses and organizations may be found at bit.ly/PWTSignUp.
