We hope you have taken the time to inform yourself about the candidates in the state primary. Voters today will help set the stage for the November general election, and should take responsibility for the decisions that will be made.
In the past months, candidates have debated, canvassed homes and shaken hands as they shared their platforms with voters. We hope they worked hard for your vote. They should. The most important people today are you, the voters.
As you head to the polls to vote in the state primary today, we ask you to keep a few candidates in mind.
Close to home, we ask voters to consider newcomer Jeanne Dietsch in her bid to be the Democrat on the ballot in November, opposing Andy Sanborn in the state Senateโs Ninth District. An entrepreneur with an impressive knowledge of business and policy, we like her determination and the focus sheโll bring on issues important to the Monadnock region. Jeanne has developed a broad support base by using good old-fashioned strategies like knocking on doors and talking with voters. And thereโs no doubt she is listening.
Her Smart with Heart approach, combined with her fiscal awareness, make her a strong candidate to beat come the general election.
The gubernatorial primary race this year features candidates with a wide range of platforms.
Among Democrats, we support Colin Van Ostern, a member of the Executive Council, in his bid for a spot in the November general election. Van Osternโs experience in campaigns, as well as in the business world, strengthen his bid. We also can appreciate his support of Planned Parenthood and full-day kindergarten across the state. We wait to hear more on his idea to expand the commuter rail from Boston.
On the Republican side, we see Chris Sununu as a leader who can bring a flexible strength to the role. Sununu, also a member of the Executive Council, surprised some when he reversed a vote and restored funding to Planned Parenthood. We see it as pragmatic โ the revelation that the videos slamming Planned Parenthood were doctored certainly called for politicians to review their votes. His promise to bring jobs to the state is also encouraging.
We hope to see you at the polls. For a list of polling places and times, see Page 6.
