Five teenagers were injured after a truck flipped over while the driver was attempting to do a “donut” in a Milford hayfield on Monday night.
Zakery Krol, 18, of Wilton, was driving his 1995 Dodge 1500 pickup in a field at the end of Perry Road with one passenger in the cab and another three riding in the truck bed when he attempted to do a tight spin, causing the truck to flip over onto its roof.
“It is not recommended to ride in the bed of a truck during any type of off-road operation,” law enforcement officials said in a press release issued Tuesday. “Although there were serious injuries, all were lucky that they survived the event.”
Fish and Game Conservation officers responded to the scene.
All but one of the teens were injured, some seriously, according to the press release. The three passengers riding in the back of the truck, Kyle Labrie, 16, of Milford, Justin Tweedy, 15, of Milford, and Joseph Bellantoni, 20, of Milford, were ejected from the bed and sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries, according to police. They were all transported to the hospital for treatment.
Krol also received non-life threatening injuries in the crash. The passenger riding in the cab with Krol, Mitchell Rota, 19, of Milford, was uninjured.
Milford police and conservation officers are investigating the accident, which they believe to be caused by reckless operation, based on initial findings. Alcohol does not appear to have been involved, according to police.
Krol and his passengers were trespassing at the time of the accident, according to police.
