To the editor:
The past week and a half have been tough on me and on our community. The passing of Jim Grant of Peterborough and Rick Wible of Greenfield will leave voids in our lives never to be filled. These two men taught me a lot about caring for others and always giving back to our community. Their mottos of โWe are standing on the shoulders of those who came before us,โย โLive simple but live large,โย โDonโt care who gets the credit, just get the job doneโย and โIfย it is meant to be, it will beโ will be mottos I will always remember and try to live by.
I met both men through our mutual love of old cars, old trucks and all things historical and vintage. Jimโs love of history for Peterborough, and his enthusiasm for maintaining historical landmarks around town, will never be duplicated.ย He brought out the best in all of us and could naturally inspire anyone. Rickโs passion for life, easy demeanor, and natural ability to connect with people from all walks of life were something to behold. Rick had a great eye for quality antiques and quality people.
Quite naturally both men supported the Peterborough Rotary Cruz-in with enthusiasm from day one seven years ago. As a small token of my appreciation for their support, the next Cruz-in on Aug. 14ย will be dedicated to their memory.
I am sure both will get much more deserved recognition from their respective communities over the coming months.
In the meantime, they will get a joyful wave and a big thank you from me as their spirits cruz by in their beloved MG and Chevy truck. I will miss you both.
