The Jaffrey Conservation Commission is hosting an education talk about bobcats on Tuesday.
Rory Carroll, a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow in Wildlife and Conservation Biology at the University of New Hampshire, will talk about how bobcats are specially adapted to thrive as predators, how they are studied, and what has been learned by studying them.
“These animals are significant to our ecology, even in the Jaffrey area,” said Jaffrey Conservation Commission chair Carolyn Garretson. “We have them in this area and we want to keep it that way. This is an educational piece so people can learn more about these animals.”
Garretson said the Conservation Commission was inspired to hold such an event, as they were greatly opposed to N.H. Fish and Game’s initial proposal to create a bobcat hunting season.
“We were so opposed to it that we went up to Concord to testify,” said Garretson, who noted the commission wasn’t able to testify due to time running out during the testifying period.
The talk will be held at the Jaffrey Meetinghouse and will start at 7 p.m. Garretson said Carroll will speak for about 45 minutes and then there will be a question and answer period directly following.
