The Nashua School District is reviewing alternate candidates for its interim superintendent position, after all three candidates, including current Mascenic Superintendent Ruthann Goguen, have withdrawn their bids.

“I have received countless expressions of thanks and support from staff, students, community and school board members in the Mascenic Regional School District. They have been thankful for my efforts to move this district forward and expressed sorrow at the thought of my departure and shared their wishes for me to continue my efforts here,” Goguen wrote in a statement e-mailed to the Ledger-Transcript on Friday.

“After much reflection, I made the decision to continue the work I have started over the last three years,” wrote Goguen.

While Goguen wrote that she enjoyed the opportunity available in Nashua, and meeting the people there, she decided to withdraw to continue her position in the Mascenic district.

“Based on the expressions of support that I have received from members of our educational community, in good conscious, I could do nothing else other than to stay at Mascenic,” she wrote.

Goguen was one of three finalists for the position. Of the other two, Mathew Malone has taken a position as a Superintendent in the Fall River Public Schools district, and the third, Betsey Cox-Buteau, has also reportedly withdrawn her candidacy. The District will return to a search process for a new interim superintendent.
