Four town-owned roofs will be repaired over the summer after the Select Board approved bids.

Niemela Construction, LLC, of Dublin, will replace the roof at the highway garage for $18,400, the transfer station shed for $3,050, and the post office for $11,100. Beech Ridge Builders, of Dublin, will replace at least half of the roof at the police department for $3,050.

“We put out a bid for half of the roof [for the police department], so the person who bid correctly should have the option to bid for the whole thing,” said board chair Sturdy Thomas. Niemela Construction’s bid for the police department’s roof was almost $4,000 higher than Beech Ridge’s, but it included doing the whole roof.

The money for the four roofs was approved during Town Meeting in March. The money will come out of the town building maintenance capital reserve fund for all but the transfer station shed roof, which will come out of the recycling fund.

The town will have a two month trial period in which the transfer station will open on Sundays in addition to regularly scheduled hours. The trial period will begin in August.

Transfer Station Superintendent Tom Kennedy said that he is still having issues with residents obtaining and putting dump stickers on their vehicles. The stickers, which help the station identify town residents from non-residents, will now be handed out exclusively by Kennedy.

“I don’t mind paying for trash from other Dublin residents [through my taxes] but I don’t want to be paying for trash from other towns,” said Thomas. “We need to find a way to make this work.”

The board opened a sealed bid for the town’s used grader. After some discussion, it was decided that Town Administrator Sherry Miller will try to negotiate further with the bidder.
