MacDowell Colony Fellow Annam Suresh from Kolkata, India, was the recipient of the Laadli National Media and Advertising Award for Gender Sensitivity. She was presented the award in India on June 18 for her feature story  “Of Anklets and Shackles”  published in Fountain Ink Magazine, about the torture and abuse of transgender adolescents who dance at social and religious celebrations in the northern states of UP and Bihar. Earlier this year, the article won the Laadli Regional Award (east) and was a finalist for the Osborn Elliot International Prize for Excellence in Journalism 2015. Suresh was a MacDowell Fellow from February to April.
