When several Jaffrey folks discovered that the Conant High School cafeteria was being used all week June 7-10 for final exams, and food would not be available to the exam takers or staff, a plan developed to engage the community in a “snack solution” with significant assistance from the hunger ministry at the United Church of Jaffrey.
As stated by one student who thanked the setup group, “Those snacks are awesome and we really do thank you for thinking of us.”
Contributions came from a collaboration of supporters: Hannaford, Walmart, including an unknown shopper, Market Basket, and a host of folks connected with the Jaffrey Food Pantry and Justice and Peace Committee of the United Church of Jaffrey, which includes members Owen Houghton and Carol Naas.
The amount of consumption by recipients of this surprise snack display was: fruit: 91 pounds plus one bushel bananas; water: 375 bottles; and energy bars: 450.
The volunteers are delighted with the response and have reported an eagerness to extend this great project to another future need.
