The first Saturday contra dance will be held at the Peterborough Town House on Saturday, June 4.

The dance will feature Luke Donforth calling with the band The Irregulars.

Donforth started contra dancing a decade ago in New York, and has called and shared his love of contra dancing from California to Texas to Vermont. He’s an emerging choreographer of new dances, and draws on the wealth of dances and dance traditions from everywhere he travels.

The Irregulars are an energetic group of young musicians on Vermont’s traditional music scene. Band members are Eileen O’Grady, fiddle; Oliver Scanlon, fiddle, mandolin, dobro, foot percussion; McKinley James, cello, drums; Dana Hartshorn, piano; Chris Krag, fiddle, and Laura Harris, accordion, banjo.

Dancing begins at 8 p.m. A free jam session for beginning and intermediate musicians will be held at 6:30 p.m. and a workshop for new dancers at 7:30 p.m.

Admission is $10 or $7 for students and seniors.
