The Vikings beat the Orioles for the second time in a week on Wednesday. This time, it was a seventh-inning, bases-loaded walk to Sydney Letters that gave Mascenic a 4-3 victory.
Conant jumped out to a 3-1 lead after a three-run second, but Mascenic evened the score in the fourth and then took the lead for good as Brenna Welch walked Letters to push Meagan Brand across with the winning run.
Maddie Labrie pitched and struck out five with no earned runs. Welch also struck out five, with one earned run, but walked six.
Maddy Springfield and Grace Chadbourne doubled for Conant and Letters doubled for Mascenic.
Conant completed their season the next day, traveling to Bow and shutting out the Falcons, 14-0.
Springfield one-hit Bow and struck out nine through six innings.
Bethany Hector tripled twice and drove in two runs.
Mascenic won their final game of the season on Friday on the road at Fall Mountain. The Vikings took home a 12-7 victory on the strength of Labrie’s seven-inning, nine-strikeout performance.
Raven Comtois homered and drove in two and Meagan Brand drove in two of her own.
At 14-3, Mascenic is fourth in Division III; they’ll host the winner of No. 13 Gilford and No. 20 Kearsarge on Thursday at 4 p.m.
Conant finishes at 12-4, good for the seventh seed. They, too, will have a bye before hosting a playoff game Thursday at 4 p.m. against No. 10 Pelham. The Pythons were one of only three teams to hand Conant at loss this year, a 5-4 tilt back on April 29.
The only other team to beat Conant this season was defending champion Campbell.
Undefeated White Mountains, the team that knocked Conant out in the semifinals last season, is the No. 1 seed.
