The town of Rindge will be able to pave an extra mile of road this year after securing a paving bid that is $10 per ton less than last year’s price.
The Select Board awarded the paving bid to Arlington Paving of Swanzey at its Tuesday morning meeting. The price awarded was $54.90 per ton, ten dollars lower than this year’s highest proposed bid.
“Having the extra $50,000 in our budget for paving is great timing,” said Selectwoman Roberta Oeser, of the money specifically set aside for paving in this year’s budget.
The town will work to pave Perkins Road, Robbins Road, Thomas Road, Main Street from Route 119 to the center of town, and Middle Winchendon Road, according to Michael Cloutier, Director of Public Works.
In past years, Cloutier said the town has paved three to three and a half miles of road. Cloutier said an additional mile of road should be able to be paved this year.
The board also approved a contract for the town’s new electronic payments contractor, Heartland Processing.
With Heartland Processing, the town will be able to accept American Express cards. The $1.50 shopping cart fee online will now be eliminated, and convenience fee will be decreased from 2.95-percent to 2.79-percent.
Finance Director Ellen Smith said the change in companies was because the town’s old electronic payments contractor, Global Payments, has partnered with Heartland. Chair Robert Hamilton said that the new contract has slightly better terms than the old contract.
The board also discussed Kinder Morgan’s withdrawal of its proposed gas pipeline project. Selectman Jim Qualey said the town should enjoy the victory, but remain vigilant.
