BASEBALL Boynton sparked by Agonis, Vaillancourt

The Boynton Bulldogs faced Derryfield on Thursday. The team got off to a slow start, unable to score runs in the first two innings. Struggling in their first at-bat with a slow curve ball the boys began to put the bat on the ball the second time around scoring four runs in the third, three in the fourth and three more in the fifth.

The Bulldogs finished with a 10-0 victory.

“Sixth-grader and second year player Sean Agonis continues to play his position at shortstop like a seasoned veteran,” said head coach . As our lead off batter he has performed beyond my expectations. I can think of only a few players I’ve had the privilege to coach over the years who possessed this kind of talent at such a young age.”

The Bulldogs faced St. Joes of Manchester — the same team that beat Boynton in the finals last year.

After waiting an hour past game time for the team to arrive, Boynton started out right where they left off last year, giving up five runs in the top of the first. After a quick mid-inning pep talk the boys put up 10 runs in the bottom of the first.

St. Joe’s erased their five-run deficit over the next four innings and Boynton went to their last at bat with a tied score.

Nathan Wilkins reached first with a walk. With Landen Vaillancourt at the plate Wilkins stole second on the first pitch. Vaillancourt was able to get the bat on the ball, grounding to second base. Off on the pitch, Wilkins never looked back, scoring the winning run as the second baseman attempted to throw Vaillancourt out at first. This was Vaillancourt’s second walk off in a week.
