Graduate student Andre Wooten took second in the triple jump and junior John Delahanty placed seventh in the decathlon on Saturday, as each earned All-New England honors to lead the Franklin Pierce University men’s track & field team on the second and final day of the NEICAAA Championships, hosted by Southern Connecticut State.
Wooten picked up eight points for the Ravens by putting together a hop, skip and jump of 14.57 meters, to place second in the triple jump. Delahanty added All-New England honors as well and earned two more points for the crimson and grey by tallying 5781 points, to finish seventh in the decathlon. The 10 points on Saturday made it a 12-point weekend for the Ravens, who finished tied for 19th out of 37 teams to score over the course of the two-day meet.
Elsewhere, Franklin Pierce had three athletes compete in the 3000-meter steeplechase on Saturday in the Elm City. Junior B.J. Smith led the way in 20th (10:01.40), and was followed by sophomore Martin Gradijan in 24th (10:08.67) and junior Dylan Crowley in 25th (10:09.19).
Junior Jon Holmes rounded out Franklin Pierce’s participation in the New England Championships. He finished 23rd in the 1500 meters, with a time of 4:15.50.
Junior Nicole Galewski finished eighth in the heptathlon to earn All-New England honors and lead the Franklin Pierce University women’s track & field team.
Galewski tallied 4146 points on her way to All-New England honors with the eighth-place finish in the heptathlon. Her performance earned the lone point of the two-day meet for the Ravens, who finished in a tie for 34th out of 38 teams to earn points over the weekend.
Elsewhere for Franklin Pierce on Saturday, freshman Lilian Baah took part in the triple jump, where she finished 13th. She posted a hop, skip and jump of 10.97 meters.
On the track, sophomore Alexa Cassara competed in a pair of events to round out the Ravens’ participation at the New England Championships. She finished 26th in the 1500 meters, with a time of 5:15.78, and placed 30th in the 800 meters, with a time of 2:27.23.
Franklin Pierce will find out if any of its student-athletes have qualified for the NCAA Championships after 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, via press release at NCAA.com.
