Senior third baseman Erin Wood of the Franklin Pierce University softball team has been named to the All-Northeast-10 Conference Second Team, as announced on Tuesday afternoon. In addition, freshman designated player Madison Ryan has been selected to the Northeast-10 All-Rookie Team.
Wood enjoyed a breakout season as a senior, in which she established new program records for career home runs (18) and home runs in a season (9). While playing in 36 of the teamโs 37 games, she hit .426/.457/.815 (46-for-108) with 15 doubles โ also a program record โ and nine home runs. Wood scored 19 runs, drove in a team-best 29, drew four walks, struck out 13 times and stole one base along the way. She currently ranks seventh in the nation in doubles per game (0.42) and 15th in slugging percentage. Within the Northeast-10, she ranks first in doubles, second in slugging percentage, tied for second in home runs, third in batting average, seventh in on-base percentage, tied for seventh in runs batted in and tied for 10thย in hits.ย
Meanwhile, Ryan played in 33 games, primarily as the designated player and leadoff hitter. She hit .262/.301/.327 over 107 at-bats (28-for-107) with four doubles and one home run. Ryan scored 12 runs, drove in eight, walked five times against 29 strikeouts and stole five bases in seven attempts.ย
Franklin Pierce finished the 2016 campaign with a 15-22 record, one win shy of the program record for wins in a season.
The 9-12 mark in divisional play was good for a sixth-place finish, two games behind the final postseason berth.
