Two nonprofit agencies in Jaffrey have passed through the Planning Board process, and hope to start construction by the year’s end.

The Park Theatre and Kitty Rescue and Adoption’s site plans were conditionally approved by the board on April 12.

“We are very grateful for the continued support of the community,” said Caroline Hollister, chair of the theater’s board of trustees. “If we don’t get construction started by this summer, you will see me out there building it myself!”

Hollister said that the theater hopes to have a pre-construction meeting in the coming weeks, and is finalizing the paperwork to begin construction. From a fundraising perspective, Hollister says the group has raised $4.5 million of its $5 million cost estimate.

Additionally, the Park Theatre will hold an open house for its new office space at 6 River St. on April 28 beginning at 12 p.m.

Kitty Rescue founder Heidi Bourgeois said that with the site plan approved, the non-profit no-kill cat shelter will focus on raising funds for construction.

Kitty Rescue has raised about $100,000 of its $500,000 goal, and Bourgeois said about half of the goal needs to be raised before construction can begin.

“We have raised enough money for the land, but we have a long way to go,” said Bourgeois, who said Kitty Rescue is being evicted from its current property at the end of the year.

Kitty Rescue’s next fundraiser, a painting party at the American Legion in Jaffrey, is on April 29 from 7 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $40 a piece, which includes all materials needed, and $15 of each ticket is donated to the shelter. Go to jjartworks.com to purchase tickets.
