Dublin’s police chief has announced his retirement from the force, effective Aug. 1.
Stephen Sullivan, who has been employed in Dublin for just over two years, has decided to retire to travel with his wife, Lana, and their three dogs. He announced his decision to the Select Board Monday.
“I’ve been a cop for 22 years now, and I think it’s time to do something else,” said Sullivan, in an interview Tuesday. “I’m like a little kid again, I don’t know what I want to do when I grow up.”
When coming up with his retirement date, Sullivan said his wife told him to pick a Monday or a Friday. After picking Aug. 1, Sullivan knew it was meant to be.
“My badge number is 81, Aug. 1 is 8/1 and the date gave me 81 more days to work,” said Sullivan. “We are going to travel in our RV and figure things out from there.”
Sullivan became chief on March 10, 2014, coming from Portsmouth, Rhode Island, where he had worked for 20 years and retired.
The Select Board acknowledged Monday that they are unsure what the search process will look like for a new police chief.
“We will consider all options in looking for a new chief,” said Selectman Walt Snitko, Monday.
“[Sullivan] was really attentive to training and did a lot to help prepare our officers.”
