WLC’s game against Portsmouth Christian on Friday has loomed large on the schedule for months, as the Warriors waited for their chance to avenge their playoff ouster at the hands of the Eagles.
“We win one, they win one,” said head coach Dennis Claire.
Friday, it was WLC’s turn in the rotation, and they pulled off a 2-0 victory.
All the scoring action took place in the first inning, where Lexi Balam singled, stole second, and then scored on a single by Ally Schwab. Sara Holka would score in the inning as well and the Warriors were in the driver’s seat.
From there, Holka, recovering nicely from her sore arm, pitched well, striking out six, and Balam closed it out with three scoreless innings and three strikeouts.
“I think our pitching was very good today,” Claire said.
Portsmouth Christian gets their final shot at Wilton in the regular season when the two teams face off at PCA on May 11. The Warriors, of course, hope they can buck the trend of alternating wins and losses in that one.
WLC (1-2) travels to Derryfield (2-1) today at 4 p.m. Derryfield’s only loss came to defending state champions Sunapee, an 8-3 game.
