Gaetano Donizetti’s opera “Roberto Devereux” will be presented live on screen at the Peterborough Players theater on Saturday at 1 p.m.

This Live at the Met production is shown as it is being performed on the Metropolitan Opera stage at Lincoln Center in New York City.

Soprano Sondra Radvanovsky sings the lead role of Queen Elizabeth I, forced to sign the death warrant of the nobleman she loves, Roberto Devereux, sung by tenor Matthew Polenzani. Mezzo-soprano Elina Garanca and baritone Mariusz Kwiecien complete the principal quartet in the bel canto masterpiece, conducted by Donizetti specialist Maurizio Benini.

In performing this role, Radvanovsky has accomplilshed the challenge of singing all three of Donizetti’s Tudor queens in the course of a single season, a rare feat made famous by Beverly Sills, and not attempted on a New York stage since.

This program, part of the Peterborough Players’ Arts on Screen series, is presented in NEC high-definition digital project and Dolby Surround Sound. Met Live audiences receive extras: insider interviews plus live behind-the-scenes video of the production.

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased by calling the box office at 924-7585 or online at www.PeterboroughPlayers.org.

Students with proper ID can purchase tickets at the box office for $20.
