To the editor:
I agree with Steve Ullman’s recent letter that says we should thank the Antrim Board of Selectmen for the work they have done on behalf of Antrim residents. I also hope we thank all the volunteers who serve on the many other boards, committees and other roles for our town.
That doesn’t mean, however, that we should support all the decisions they have made. The Board of Selectmen gave away over $5 million of property tax revenue when they signed the Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT) agreement with Antrim Wind. They also put us at financial and legal risk with the separate contract they signed with Antrim Wind.
You can support the Antrim Wind project, but it is simply wrong for the selectmen to have signed these agreements that will cause Antrim taxpayers to have to foot a big part of the financing bill should the wind farm be built.
