Please keep your appointments

To the editor:

As a volunteer greeter for some of the annual free tax sessions offered at The River Center, I wanted to express my thoughts on something that is happening quite a bit this year.

There are many people who call for an appointment, but who never come in for it, even though they have received a reminder; nor do they call to let anyone know. What is too bad is that the tax preparers are volunteers who have given up their time from doing other things to be ready to help those seeking tax help. Further, when people don’t come for their appointment, that also takes the time away from someone else who might have been able to use that slot to have their taxes done.

Fortunately, some people do call to cancel, and their consideration is greatly appreciated as we all know that things do come up unexpectedly.  And when they call a day or so before their scheduled appointment, that is even better.

Larry Schwartz and his wonderful group of IRS certified tax preparers do an outstanding job for hundreds people in our area.

They also are required to pass lengthy tests given by the IRS to prove their competency, so have given up more than just the time for an individual’s scheduled session.
