The Monadnock Center for History and Culture will host “Painting Peterborough,” a special walking tour on Saturday, Aug. 9, at 10:30 a.m. The 90-minute tour explores downtown Peterborough through the eyes of artists who painted the area from the 1830s to the 1930s.
Participants will learn about folk artists and painters commissioned by the Works Progress Administration during the Great Depression. Each guest will receive a full-color handout with reproductions of the featured artworks to compare with the modern-day sites.
The tour begins at the Monadnock Center, located at 19 Grove St. in Peterborough. Tickets are $12, or $10 for Monadnock Center members, and can be purchased at monadnockcenter.org or by calling 603-924-3235.
“Painting Peterborough” is part of the centerโs 2025 Walking Tour Series, sponsored by Four Seasons-Sothebyโs International Realty.
