One person was airlifted with serious injuries following a motor vehicle rollover crash on Route 202 in Jaffrey on Wednesday afternoon that also sent two others to the hospital.
Shortly after 1 p.m. on Wednesday, a pickup truck was at the intersection of Old Sharon Road and Route 202 when it pulled out to cross the highway and enter Nutting Road. At the same time, a second vehicle was traveling South on Route 202, and the two vehicles collided, Jaffrey Deputy Fire Chief Keith Dupuis said in an interview at the scene.
The pickup truck rolled over and came to rest on its passenger side in the middle of Route 202. The vehicle that had been traveling south on 202 left the road, going down a shallow embankment and settling in the ditch.
The pickup truck contained two occupants, according to Jaffrey Police Lt. Christopher LaBrecque, and both were injured; one was transported to the Silver Ranch Airpark by ambulance, where she was taken by helicopter for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The other occupant of the pickup was taken to UMass Memorial Hospital by ambulance, Peterborough Fire Chief Ed Walker said.
According to Dupuis, neither had been wearing seatbelts, and both were partially ejected from the truck.
“Seat belts save lives,” Dupuis said.
The driver of the other vehicle involved was taken by ambulance to Monadnock Community Hospital.
Police did not release the names of the drivers or passenger by press time Wednesday.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene. About a mile of Route 202 was shut down until about 2:15 p.m.
Peterborough and Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance, and Rindge Police assisted at the scene.
