To the editor:
The Wilton-Lyndeborough Cooperative School District is proposing a budget for the coming year that exceeds $23,000 per student. For that price, the children of our district should be getting a world-class education. Instead, we have seen a long history of below-average test scores. The people of Wilton and Lyndeborough deserve better accountability. This year’s budget error was an unpleasant surprise; we need to make sure that never happens again.
To put it simply: taxes are too high, and the quality of our education is too low.
If you live in Wilton or Lyndeborough, there are two things you can do. First, you can attend the WLC School District Meeting on Saturday, March 7 at 9 a.m. at the Middle School/High School. Exercise your right to vote on the budget, vote for a forensic review of the district’s books, and help to decide other important issues.
Second, you can vote in Town Elections on Tuesday, March 10. I’m running for School Board because I believe we need to do a better job of controlling costs and spending our money where it will add the most value for our children and families. We need to attract and retain good teachers, encourage volunteerism, and cut any spending that doesn’t directly contribute to higher quality education.
Several years ago, I served on the WLC Budget Committee, so I understand the school district’s budgeting process. I have a background in financial management, so I bring strong analytical skills to the table. We need to aggressively manage spending, cut waste, and apply funds where they will make a difference.
My name will be on the ballot for Wilton residents. If you live in Lyndeborough, I encourage you to vote for Charlie Post, who shares my commitment to lowering taxes and making our school district more accountable.
