Franklin Pierce lost three straight games last week at the hands of Bentley.
A sixth-inning home run by senior third baseman Erin Wood shrunk the gap on Friday afternoon, but could not undo the damage of a pair of early unearned runs for the Franklin Pierce University softball team at Bentley Field. Bentley got a two-run single from senior first baseman Morgan Mazone in the bottom of the fifth to take the lead for good on the way to a 4-3 win in Northeast-10 Conference, Northeast Division play. Bentley pitcher Kelsey Smith of Jaffrey threw the first four innings for the Falcons and did not factor in the decision. She allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits, did not issue a walk and struck out six.
Senior right-hander Mandi Adee started and threw the first four innings in the circle for Franklin Pierce. She allowed two unearned runs on five hits, walked two, struck out one and did not factor in the decision. Freshman right-hander Sabrina LoMonaco took over to start the fifth, threw the final two innings, allowed two runs on two hits and walked one while taking the loss (0-5).
On Saturday afternoon, FPU suffered a pair of six-inning defeats, with the eight-run rule invoked in each half of the doubleheader. Bentley took an 8-0 win in the first game and followed up with an 11-3 win in the second game at Bentley Field.
With the losses, the Ravens fall to 5-16.
In game one, Adee allowed nine hits and six runs over four innings while taking the loss (0-7).
In game two, LoMonaco had three strikeouts and allowed eight hits over the first two innings while taking the loss (0-6) for the Ravens.
The Ravens return to the field today, when they travel to Saint Anselm for a Northeast-10 Conference, Northeast Division doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at South Athletic Fields in Manchester.
