About 400 feet of Cheshire Road could be closed, if voters approve at Town Meeting, due to what a nearby business owner is calling a safety issue.
DD Bean and Son owner Mark Bean approached the Select Board on Monday, asking if the town would consider closing a section of Cheshire Road, from its intersection with Route 202 to its intersection with White Road.
“We have quite a bit of pedestrian traffic on that road, so having it discontinued would be good for safety purposes,” said Bean.
Selectmen on Monday each gave their blessing to the request, but closing a portion of a road requires Town Meeting approval, so it will on the 2017 warrant.
The Meetinghouse Committee met with the Select Board to discuss a potential warrant article to fund the remainder of the Meetinghouse roof reshingling project.
Presently, the committee has $59,402.80 in various grants and donations in hand for a project currently estimated to cost $106,500, which includes architectural services.
If $7,500 were to be taken from the Meetinghouse Trust Fund and $16,597.20 from the Municipal Building Maintenance Trust Fund, the remainder to be raised would be $23,000, an amount committee head Rob Stephenson said could be raised through various grant and donation opportunities.
The board did not decide on an amount for a warrant article, but expressed a willingness to put one forth for the remaining amount needed to be raised.
The committee will meet with select board members in the coming weeks to update them on numbers.
