The Conant Orioles looked like carnivorous raptors on Saturday afternoon, ruling the skies and striking with ferocity as they spoiled Mascenic’s homecoming with a 6-4 win.

Conant went airborne early and often and nearly put the game away in the first half, scoring the first three goals to jump out to a commanding lead. Ryan Smith scored the first two, one on a header, and Gavin Motuzas scored the next, also taking to the air.

After Daimon Gibson broke the ice for Mascenic, Conant would score yet again on a header, this one seeing James Record emerge from a pack and nail one in.

Mascenic was not yet defeated at 4-1, however. Noah Caballero netted a ball off a penalty kick, and Gibson would score again to make it 4-3. Then, Conant’s Kole Patten gave the O’s a two-goal cushion, bending a beautiful free kick up and over the head of Mascenic tender Brett Stauffeneker and into the net.

Caballero would score again, but Silas Seppala answered back and Conant won 6-4.

Mascenic (2-4) heads to Campbell (6-1) today at 4 p.m., while Conant (4-3) looks for revenge against WLC (2-4) at home today at 4. Conant and Mascenic rematch at Conant Saturday at noon.
