The Toadstool Bookshop, 12 Depot St., in Peterborough, will welcome two authors on Saturday June 4. Both events are free and all are welcome.

At 11 a.m., Jack Davis will discuss and sign “The Bald Eagle: The Improbable Journey of America’s Bird.” The Pulitzer Prize-winning author of “The Gulf” has written a cultural and natural history of the bald eagle in America. Filled with stories of Founding Fathers, rapacious hunters, heroic bird rescuers and the lives of bald eagles themselves.

At 2 p.m., Erin Kate Ryan will sign and discuss her debut novel “Quantum Girl Theory.” She will be at MacDowell in Peterborough late May and early June, and has offered tovisit the store. Taking as its subject matter the unsolved disappearance of Paula Jean Welden from Bennington College in 1946, each chapter of “Quantum Girl Theory” imagines a life Paula Jean Welden may have lived after she left that room.
