We need a Democratic state government to effect change, starting at the top with Dr. Tom Sherman.

Nothing will change until we replace Gov. Chris Sununu. He gets elected by fooling some Democrats into thinking he is a moderate, but his actions are those of a conservative willing to caucus with fringe Republicans and libertarians.

He brags about the low tax burden, but we are always among the top five states in property tax payments. He blames inflation on Democrats, but signed an increase that almost doubles the energy costs for households after failing to invest in cost-saving alternatives. Then he uses federal funds brought to New Hampshire by Democrats to write paltry “relief” checks, claiming that money is coming from state surplus.

We still allow the ridiculously low federal minimum wage of $7.25, even as the cost of living skyrockets. We are last in our spending on public education, yet the state found approximately $1.5 million to build a charter school with a curriculum that includes white and religious supremacist narrative.

And if the state coffers had a nickel for every time he has flip-flopped on women’s reproductive rights, we could fund Planned Parenthood. That we don’t suggests that while the governor plays a centrist for the press, he colludes with the 4-1 Executive Council to maintain a conservative fiscal agenda.

His failure to procure free or reduced lunches for 7,000 additional students by not enrolling New Hampshire in a program that automatically provides them for students on Medicaid also reduced payouts of needs grants from the state that were based on the number of students in the district or school who receive free or reduced lunches. When Democrats held the majorities, he set records in vetoes. Sununu must go.
