ConVal Drama will present a production of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast Jr.” with an opening performance tonight, July 28.
This production is presented in association with ConVal Summer Academy and features the third annual collaboration between ConVal High School, Great Brook Middle School and South Meadow Middle School. Students coming into grades 5 through 12 participated in a four-week course to put together this 60-minute version of the Broadway production.
The performances are the concluding activity of the ConVal Summer Academy class “Backstage to Onstage!” It will feature the full cast of characters, with many supporting roles allowing students to play characters in the village and animated objects inside the fairy tale castle of the Beast.
The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed to his former self — but time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.
The music for “Beauty and the Beast” is written by Alan Menken, with lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, and book by Linda Woolverton.
Performances will be held tonight at 6 p.m. and Friday, July 29, at 2 and 6 p.m. in the Lucy Hurlin Theatre at ConVal.
Tickets are $5 and can purchased at the door or online at www.onthestage.com/b4445.
