This weekend, Jaffrey’s annual Scarecrows on the Common event is back, but under a new name, and new management.

In past years, the event has been run by TEAM Jaffrey, a nonprofit that acted as Jaffrey’s Main Street Program. After the dissolution of TEAM Jaffrey, following board member resignations that could not be filled last September, the town has worked to pick up the events it ran.

The Recreation Department became the new home for Scarecrows on the Common, which is now the town’s Fall Fest. The traditional scarecrow-building event will be hosted on the library lawn, where residents can pay to either use clothes and accessories or bring their own costume to make a scarecrow with provided hay and a wooden stake. The finished scarecrows are put up for display up and down Main Street and Route 202.

In addition to scarecrows, there’ll be lawn games, vendors and food trucks. Festivities will extend to the Town Hall front lawn. Live music will be provided at the gazebo.

Before and during the Fest, the Jaffrey Woman’s Club will also be hosting the Fall Craft Fair and Bake Sale, starting at 9 a.m. and going until 2 p.m. The sale will be held in the Jaffrey Woman’s Club at 33 Main St., across from the library. The sale features handcrafted items and baked goods.

If you can’t make it to the event, the scarecrows will remain up for several weeks afterward. Scarecrows on the Common will be held on Oct. 10 from noon to 4 p.m. on the Jaffrey Public Library lawn and surrounding area.
